Messages from Administration

Paula Bruno, Ed. D.

Principal

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

Welcome back to Sylacauga High School. As the seasoned administrator in the building, I am truly honored and excited to continue serving and supporting this place.

Parents, as a former 6–12 social studies teacher and CTE director, I understand the importance of the work before us: ensuring teachers are teaching and students are learning. I also want you to know that Sylacauga High School has made tremendous strides in our efforts to improve year after year. We have solid systems in place to support student success, strengthen accountability, and help students stay on track. Just as importantly, we have systems in place to support our teachers, because when teachers feel supported, students thrive.

Students, my hope is that this year is filled with growth, achievement, and memories you will carry with you for a lifetime. Show up each day ready to learn, ready to improve, and ready to do what is right.

Teachers and staff: thank you for the heart, effort, and professionalism you bring to this work. I know the beginning of a school year can bring excitement and nerves, but please remember, I’m committed to supporting you so that you can continue doing the important work of serving the kids.

Together, let's ensure Sylacauga High School remains a safe, supportive, and welcoming place where every student is known, challenged, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Dear Sylacauga Community,

I am Rhonda Courson, one of the assistant principals at Sylacauga High School. I have over 30 wonderful years of experience in education, 18 of which have been with the Sylacauga City School System. I have also taught in Oxford City, Shelby County, Tuscaloosa County, Ozark City, and Crisp County (Georgia). I have degrees in Educational Leadership, English, and Psychology. My favorite thing about being a teacher was making the learning interesting and challenging. As a school leader, I enjoy solving problems, helping the school run smoothly and with a purpose, and spreading happiness. On a personal note, I was raised in Birmingham. My husband and I have been married for over 35 years. Currently, he is a Missions Strategist for the St. Clair Baptist Association. All three of our children attended Sylacauga City Schools and are now either in college or in the workforce. I love my job and have always tried to give the most I possibly can to the students, teachers, and parents. It is my distinct honor to aid in the intellectual and social development of the students at Sylacauga High School. Please feel free to contact me anytime.
